AFTER three very successful years at Sheringham High School, Sheringham Gymnastics Club is moving its training centre to Splash Leisure Centre from September 7.

The club already holds the title of County Schools Floor and Vault Champions, Norfolk County Schools Team Gym Champions, North Norfolk Team Gym Champions and also have the sixth best U11's schools tumbler in the eastern region.

The club was successful in obtaining Lottery funding last year which enabled them to purchase a range of new equipment. It offers training in women's artistic gymnastics, men's floor and vault and gymnastic tumbling.

Head coach Derek Welch said: 'This is a very exciting development and the move will be very beneficial to the club and its members. There is likely to be a surge of interest in gymnastics over the next few years following Beth Tweddle winning the world championship on bars, Louis Smith winning an Olympic bronze in 2008, the world championships coming to London for the first time in October and the 2012 Olympics.

'We want to offer gymnastics to as many children in north Norfolk as possible and the support offered by Splash will greatly enhance the club's training opportunities and will assist the club's growth and development in its aims and ambitions of becoming a centre of gymnastics in north Norfolk.'

The club operates general classes for boys and girls aged seven years plus on Monday evenings from 3.45-6pm and further details can be obtained from head coach Derek Welch on 01263 822363 or email dwelch@sheringhamhigh. lpplus.net
