Gimingham win NEN League’s Benevolent Cup

Gimingham made it a hat-trick of successes when they lifted the Norwich Premier Security NEN League’s Nicholson’s of Stalham Benevolent Cup on Easter Monday against rivals Coltishall.
A sparse crowd saw the opening period evenly balanced but from the moment that Wayne Cutting opened the scoring for Gimingham it was they who took control and really never looked back.
Charlie Skipper doubled their lead from the spot before the break and further goals courtesy of Cutting and Skipper also one from Ryan Beeson completed a comprehensive victory for the holders. with Wayne Nelson netting Colts’ consolation goal to give a 5-1 final score.
Haisboro Athletic and Runton will contest the REW Subsidiary Cup after booking their final places. Haisboro were at home to Division 3 Plumstead Rangers. A Thomas Crabb hat-trick, a brace from James Underhill and one apiece from Matt Brown and Simon Peasley, his first ever goal in organised football, saw them finish 7-1 victors with Beav Archer replying for the Rangers.
Runton scored five times at Mundesley who netted twice.
Gimingham closed the gap at the top of the Slater & Frith Division One when they ended East Ruston’s seven game unbeaten run with a 4-0 home success. On target were Charlie Skipper, Mickey Reynolds Ryan Beeson and Glen Thurston.While this was happening leaders Coltishall were dropping points at North Walsham A in a 2-2 draw.
Ludham won the local derby against Horning 1-0, Chris Roll netting, and Aldborough Lions picked up their first league win since early November, 1-0 over Lyng.
In the Wayford Nurseries Division Two, Holt A took another step closer to promotion with a 1-0 win at Aylsham A thanks to a Danny Rouse effort, leaving them needing four more points to secure promotion along with Mundesley, who are already up. Cawston and Hickling shared the spoils and six goals while Cromer Youth Old Boys, thanks to a brace from Chris Chisholm and one from Jordan Buxton, were 3-0 winners at Erpingham
In the Walcott Lighthouse Division 3 League Cup there were wins for Holts Colts, 3-0 at Glaven Valley, and Coltishall Res, 2-1 home winners over Trunch.
