It was a mixed weekend for the two north Norfolk teams challenging for promotion to the Premier Division of the Anglian Combination.

Sheringham slipped up in their top-of-the-table battle at Wymondham Town, going down 3-1, while Aylsham maintained their excellent run of form by beating Yelverton 5-1.

The Shannocks are still third in the table but are now four points behind Wymondham, having played one more game, while Aylsham are up to fourth, just a point adrift of the Shannocks.

Ben Boyce got the only goal for Sheringham on Saturday while Wymondham's goals were scored by Ashley Mitchell, Aaron Nixon and Paul Moriaty.

Aylsham were indebted to James Oliver, who scored a hat-trick, while Matt Billing and Reece Cousins were also on target in a comprehensive win.

Aylsham have a testing home game against Bungay Town on Saturday while Sheringham will be looking to bounce back from only their second league defeat of the season when they take on Kirkley and Pakefield Reserves at Walmer Road.

It was another day to forget for Cromer Town who were hammmered 10-0 at leaders Mundford. Carl Huxtable scored four, Alby Matthews hit a hat-trick while James Walter, Ben Coe and Ian Fancett were also on the scoresheet.

It was the third time this season the Crabs have conceded 10 and took the number of goals they have let in up to 46 in their previous six games, a sequence that includes a competitive 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Kirkley in their first match of 2018.

North Walsham also had a poor afternoon, going down 4-0 at home to Scole United.

Cromer continue their quest to get off the mark for the season at Attleborough Town on Saturday while North Walsham are at home to Yelverton.

Stalham Town remain in trouble near the foot of the Premier Division after being beaten 5-2 at home by Bradenham Wanderers.

George Watts-Sturrock (2), Tom Spalding, Lewis Fuller and Harry Exley were on target for Wanderers with Stalham's goals both coming from Danny Camish.

The good news for Stalham was that second from bottom Acle United also lost. St Andrews came out on top in the battle between two strugglers as they won 4-2 to leave Stalham still four points clear of the drop zone.

They have a tough game at second placed Norwich CEYMS on Saturday.

Holt United maintained their promotion push in Division Two with a 5-1 derby win at Wells Town that consolidated third position in the table. On target for the Owls were Jack Castlo, Lee Edwards, Aaeron Moss, Chris Smith and Craig Knowles.

Next up for Holt is a home match against Caister Reserves on Saturday.
