North Norfolk played host to Portugal, Italy and Spain in a football event last week as the North Norfolk Schools Sport Partnership hosted a local schools Euro 2008 football festival at Holt United Football Club.

Organised and delivered by the Norwich City Football in the Community Scheme, the nine schools who participated were Blenheim Park, Holt, Sheringham, Northrepps, Overstrand, Antingham and Southrepps, Worstead, Hindringham and Aldborough.

They adopted an Euro 2008 football team and the 90 children aged seven years old participated in an hour of fun football skills, improving individual skills, enthusiasm and confidence, followed by a festival tournament.

Asa Saunders, manager for the North Norfolk Schools Sport Partnership said: “I wanted to promote Euro 2008 to the north Norfolk schools, and it was a great chance to see children who have not had the opportunity to participate in a football festival have fun and learn new skills.”

The pupils also received a visit from Jeremy Goss, the legendary Norwich City player, who is now the club's community ambassador.

Goss shared his experiences and the values of participating in sport.

Six junior football organisers from Fakenham High School supported the FITC coaches and the School Sports Partnership on the day.
