WILL Dorsett and Clare Donovan both from Mammoth Tri Club competed at the Ipswich Duathlon. The event which takes place at Alton Water is a challenging contest comprising of a 5k run followed by a hilly 23 kilometre cycle with another final 5k run.

Dorsett started well on the first run, managing to stay with the leading group and entered transition in a good time of 17:06. It is at this point in a race that he normally asserts his authority on the event with his cycling prowess. However, for the first time another athlete beat Dorsett on the cycle part of a triathlon/duathlon.

Army triathlete Glyn Painter had an awesome cycle leg, taking two minutes out of Dorsett with a blistering 34:32 to Dorsettt's time of 36:38. Dorsett entered the final transition in second place and was able to hold on to this position with a strong run of 18:14, giving him a total time of 1-12:23.

Clare Donovan was entering her second duathlon, keen to repeat her success from Newmarket. She ran well in the first run entering transition in 22:10 for the 5k which is a very respectable time.

Onto the bike and she cycled well returning in 46:37 and sped out onto the run looking to pull back some time.

She ran extremely well, only slowing 17 seconds from the first run in 22:27 which is in itself an amazing performance. She won her age group, finished sixth female overall and 67th from a total of 115 finishers, a fantastic performance for someone with a great future in duathlon.

This was a great result for both Mammoth triathletes, and proves that the training offered by the club and its coaches is working well. Anyone wishing to join Mammoth Tri or would like to just swim in a structured manner can do so each Sunday at Victory Swimming Pool, North Walsham at 8am.
