North Walsham Town still lead the Anglian Combination Premier Division table but their title aspirations have received a double blow this week.

They lost to fourth-placed Beccles 4-2 on Saturday and then could only draw 0-0 with basement side Sprowston Athletic on Tuesday evening.

Despite these disappointing results, the Angels must now show resilience and determination to bounce back and regain the form they were showing a few weeks ago.

On Tuesday night, title rivals Wroxham Reserves, who drew

2-2 with Cromer in their previous game, hosted Acle and lost 3-2.

Beccles 4, North Walsham 2

Walsham succumbed to a disappointing 4-2 reverse following a lacklustre display.

The Angels made a nervy start and were soon behind. A low cross was not cleared properly and Martin fired into the roof of the net from close range.

Walsham hit back within minutes when Clifton's cross found Lee Clarke and he turned and fired home.

Beccles regained the lead just before half-time when Town reacted slowly to the award of a free-kick and the home side took advantage with a tap-in by Clarke following a cross/shot.

The home side were again more enterprising in the early stages of the second half but Walsham began to impose themselves and grabbed a second equaliser just after the hour.

Hanby strode forward down the right and his delicious centre was met by Lee Clarke who headed home, despite the valiant efforts of the keeper.

The Angels were now on top and began to turn the screw but with 20 minutes left they were hit by a sucker punch.

A swift break down the Beccles left resulted in a deep centre being met by the rampaging run of Beccles centre-back Barham, leaving Munday helpless.

Town tried in vain to come back for the third time but came up against a resolute defence and defeat was confirmed in the 85th minute as a corner was turned home from close range by Clarke.

Meanwhile, Walsham Reserves bounced back from two defeats to Marlingford with a 4-1 win over lowly Fakenham Reserves, while the A team's blip continued as they lost 2-1 against Hickling.

The Sunday side performed heroics to defeat CEYMS by the odd goal in three to remain well placed in their division.
