A defeat is never a cause for celebration - but Cromer Town could feel well pleased with their efforts after losing at home to Attleborough Town on Saturday.

Having being well beaten in their opening five fixtures in league and cup - including a 10-1 home drubbing- the new-look Crabs gave a good account of themselves before going down 3-1.

The visitors arrived at Cabbell Park as one of in form teams in Division One of the Anglian Combination but were made to work hard for the points.

Michal Lewandowski got Cromer's goal but strikes from Gregg Mann (2) and Jamie Venables saw Boro home.

It was a performance which suggests better times might be just around the corner for a side that has been totaly rebuilt by new manager Jordan Kemp following a disastrous 2016-17 campaign that saw them relegated from the top flight after losing all but one of their games.

The Crabs will be now be looking to prove it's not a one off when they make the short journey to Hoveton Wherrymen on Saturday (2.30pm).

Sheringham are three points clear at top of the table with a game in hand on their nearest rivals, and are still unbeaten, following a 4-0 home win over newly promoted Yelverton, who are still searching for their first win of the campaign.

Tom Hislop (2), Ben Boyce and Jack Crane sealed the victory.

Aylsham had a comfortable afternoon, beating a visiting Kirkley and Pakefield Reserves side who thrashed Cromner 7-1 the previous week 4-0. Rhys Cousins, Michael Warnes, Owen Collier and Matt Billings were the scorers

North Walsham were beaten 2-0 at home by UEA, who made it four wins in a row thanks to goals from Mohammed Hassan and Ben George.

In the Premier Division Long Straton failed to build on a lead as they went down 2-1 at Long Stratton. Adam Race and James Bemrose gave Stratton the win after Lewis Crosby had opened the scoring.

Stalham are at home to Blofield in the league on Saturday (2.30pm) while Aylsham and Sheringham both hit the road in the second round of the Norfolk Senior Cup.

Aylsham have a daunting away tie at Thurlow Nunn Premier Division side Great Yarmouth Town while the Shannocks are away to UEA (both 1,30pm).

Meanwhile North Walsham travel to Loddon for a league match (2.30pm).

Holt slipped to their third defeat of the season in Division Two, going down 3-1 at home to East Harling, with substitute Lee Edwards getting the goal. The Owls visit Caister Reserves on Saturday.
