Cromer Town have been rocked by the resignation of manager Chris Wigger after four hugely successful years in charge.

The man who guided the Crabs to successive Anglian Combination Premier Division title triumphs in 2011 and 2012 called it day last week for personal reasons.

His exit leaves a huge gap to fill at Cabbell Park, and with pre-season training set to start soon the club may appoint a caretaker boss to allow them time to find a long-term replacement.

Wigger, a former Norwich City youth team player, took charge four and a half years ago following the departure of Terry Beane, having already been at the club for about five years as player and captain.

In his time as manager he guided the Crabs to top four finishes every season, including back to back Sterry Cup successes as well as the Don Frost Memorial Cup last year.

Under the guidance of Wigger and his assistant Cedric Anselin – another ex-Canary - Cromer finished third last season, well adrift of champions Acle United. But their challenge for a third successive title was badly hit by drainage problems at Cabbell Park that left them with a daunting fixture pile-up at the end of the campaign.

Speaking after informing club chairman Paul Jarvis of his resignation Wigger said: 'It is regrettable that I have had to step down due to unforeseen circumstances but I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has played for me and also the many great people associated with the club.

'After several years I leave with a heavy heart, but at the same time feeling proud of the club's achievements.'

The club are hoping to put into place some form of caretaker arrangement with pre-season due to get under way at Cabbell Park on Tuesday, July 2. However the club are actively seeking a long term replacement.

Applications for the post of first team manager are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons for the challenging position.

Proven ability to work well in a team situation and to have extensive knowledge of the local football scene is required, along with the ability to attract quality players to the club.

Applications, including details of previous relevant experience and details of what you believe you can give to the club, should be submitted to chairman Paul Jarvis or secretary Richard Cox by Monday, July 1.
