Cromer's Tuesday night 4-1 win over North Walsham has seen the Crabs leapfrog them to the top of the Anglian Combination Premier Division.

And title rivals Hempnall, who have been coming up on the rails, could only manage a 1-1 draw with visitors Wroxham Reserves.

Blofield are still a danger to the top teams as, although in fifth place, they have two games in hand over Cromer.

Mattishall 0, Cromer Town 1

For the trip to Mattishall the Crabs made one change with Simon Durrant starting in place of the suspended Ryan Honeyman, writes Richard Cox.

Cromer made a poor start to the game and the hosts were on top but only created a couple of chances.

After a scramble on the edge of the box the ball fell to Gary Harbour whose strike clipped the bar.

In the 26th minute the home side were awarded a penalty for a foul against Harwood. Luke Catchpole stepped up and saw his spot-kick saved by Nathan Pauling.

Before the break Harbour crossed from the left and picked out Catchpole who saw his acrobatic overhead kick sail narrowly over the bar.

The game remained goalless, but at the start of the second half Cromer began to play some better football and took the lead.

Josh Gray played the ball down the line to Horton who then fed the run of Landamore. Horton made a run inside and received a return pass before firing towards goal, and the effort found its way into the back of the net after the keeper flapped at the ball.

The Crabs' defence was solid, there was no way through for Mattishall, and Cromer looked likely to add to their lead.

Harwood's free-kick from 30 yards went just wide of the post and then from Pauling's kick the ball ran for Terrington who fired over from just inside the box.

Cromer came away with the victory with the narrow 1-0 result. Not their best display, particularly in the first half, but taking the lead early in the second half the result seemed certain because once again the defence was organised.

Cromer Reserves also picked up all three points away, at Freethorpe with a 2-1 win thanks to Paul Winterbone and an own goal. In the previous game they hosted East Harling and won 3-1 win (Lewis Smith, 2, Shaun Cameron).

Spixworth 1, Cromer 1

FOR the second time in a week Cromer faced Spixworth, on Bank Holiday Monday. Josh Gray returned to the starting line-up in place of Tom Davies who was on the bench.

The Crabs made a sloppy start and were failing to keep possession of the ball and allowed the hosts a lot of time and space in advanced positions.

But the home side didn't make the most of it and Cromer were able to keep them at bay with some last-ditch defending.

Despite a sloppy opening it was Cromer who had the better opportunities. Landamore played the ball wide to Eves who crossed to Pipe whose scuffed effort went straight at Bilham.

Then from the left Horton picked out Terrington whose header was just wide.

The home side took the lead at a perfect time in time added on in the first half. A corner from the right picked out Matt Shelton whose header found the back of the net.

Several minutes into the second half manager Chris Wigger made a double change which saw the introduction of Davies and Durrant to the game.

Soon after Cromer grabbed an equaliser. Gray's long throw was flicked on to the back post where Durrant had a simple finish from close range.

Although they had got back into the game Cromer failed to cause real threat to the Spixworth goal with play breaking down in the final third and if there was going to be a winner it would have gone the way of the home side.

In the closing minutes Spixworth had two good chances to grab a winner. Firstly Broughton-Douglas volleyed effort was blocked by Harwood and then Didwell headed over from an excellent position.

The final whistle came and the points were shared - hopefully a temporary blip for Cromer.
