CROMER'S 2-1 defeat at the hands of Hempnall on Tuesday night could well have spelled the end of their Sterry Cup hopes.
For while the Crabs still top the Anglian Combination Premier Division table, they have now finished their fixtures and second-placed Blofield are just three points behind with two games left to play.
Hempnall have one game still to play, against mid-table Mattishall, but although they have risen to third, they would not be able to overtake Cromer.
So it's now just a two-horse race. Cromer's north Norfolk rivals Wroxham Reserves could do them a huge favour by stopping visitors Blofield in their tracks tomorrow night, and United's final game will be at home against fifth-placed Beccles on Tuesday.
Cromer didn't play on Saturday and Blofield leapfrogged North Walsham into second place.
