Cromer played their final Squash 57 match of the season when they travelled into Norwich to take on East Anglia II.

Despite giving arguably their best all round performance of the season they had to settle for a 14-6 defeat in a match which was far from being as one-sided as the score might suggest.

Technical Director Barry Starlingmade two changes to the team who won the previous week. Alistair Dunnett and Martin Braybrook both dropped out while Gary Spruce and Peter Simmonds came into the team to play the second and third string matches, with John Chandler dropping down the order to play at No.4 while Martin Sanville again filled the problematical first string slot.

For the third time this season Chandler found himself up against a good female player and for the third time he won although he certainly didn't have things all his own way. He lost the opening game against the talented Thai student Sue Kuhaudomlarp 13-9 but won the second 13-7 to draw level and then had to really dig deep as he won the third game 18-16 and the fourth 15-13 to come out on top 3-1.

Simmonds won the opening game of his third string match but he was not able to build on this as he came off second best in the next three games. Gary Spruce also lost his match 3-1 although he can be heartened by his performance against a very good player.

In the final first string match Martin Sanville was up against a player who had won four times for the East Anglia first team this season and although he lost the opening game 0-13 he recovered well to draw level as he won the second 13-10 before losing the third and fourth games to become the third Cromer player to lose 3-1.

Afterwards Starling said: 'We have enjoyed our first foray into competitive Squash 57. We struggled at first to cope with the larger bouncier ball but we have finished the season in fourth place in Division Two and all our players contributed. John Chandler is the oldest player in the team but he is a canny player and at times Gary Spruce was absolutely magnificent against a very good opponent.'

Results: Martin Sanville lost to Nathan Taylor 0-13 13-10 7-13 6-13, Gary Spruce lost to Keane Pye 7-13 8-13 14-12 6-13, Peter Simmonds lost to Gerry Francis 13-9 7-13 10-13 9-13, John Chandler beat Sue Kuhaudomlarp 9-13 13-7 18-16 15-13.
