Competing at the recent British Junior Rowing Championships, held on Strathclyde Lake near Glasgow, were Emily Bowyer from Cromer and Beth Meakin from Dereham, who both represent Norwich Rowing Club and are coached by Katy Knowles from England Talent Pathway.
They qualified for the final of the women's junior pairs, setting the fastest time in the semis. Beth and Emily had a superb race, dominating it most of the way and managed to win a silver medal, only losing out on gold by 0.12 of a second.
This is a fine achievement as they are a novice crew and have been racing together for only a matter of months.
Although disappointed to miss out on first place and the chance to represent England at the upcoming Home Countries Regatta by such a narrow margin, the girls appear to have a bright future ahead of them and being placed second in Great Britain for their age group is a high accolade indeed.
