Cromer (14pts) drew with Brooke (15) in the Norfolk Alliance Premier Division.

Brooke were the opponents on a boiling day at the Norton Warnes ground. Cromer captain Tom Davies won the toss and chose to field first.

Overseas Dewan and Sheehy opened for the visitors and Indian batsman Dewan in particular was making a bright start, finding the boundary regularly.

Warnes made the breakthrough, bowling Sheehy for 10. Dewan was looking good before Warnes found the outside edge and he was caught behind by Barrett for 44. Shearer joined Panter in the middle and this pair continued to score at an impressive rate and Brooke looked like posting a score of 300 plus.

The partnership was broken when Charlwood got Shearer for 31 after a stand of 72 with Panter.

Panter continued to look good with the bat and moved beyond his half century.

The run rate did drop slightly with wickets falling in the lower order, including two excellent run outs from Richard Keeble and Kristian Regis. Cromer finally got the wicket of Panter, for 87, when he picked out Tom Davies off the bowling of Warnes. Charlwood got the final two Brooke wickets in the last over and Brooke were all out for 290.

A very good score but earlier in the innings they looked like reaching a much greater target so some fine efforts from Cromer in the latter part of the innings to keep the score down.

Michael Warnes finished with excellent figures of 4-37 from his 13 overs whilst Richard Charlwood took 3-64.

With almost six runs an over needed in reply Cromer made a brilliant start through openers Charlwood and Turner. Both looked full of confidence in the middle and punished any wayward delivery.

Their stand came to an end in the 12th over when Sturman got David Turner for 47, after a partnership of 81. Shortly after Kimber followed back to the pavilion but there was then a valuable partnership between Charlwood and Liyanage.

Charlwood reached his half century and at the other end Liyanage looked in fine form. Charlwood fell to Panter for 56 and skipper Davies joined Sri Lankan Liyanage at the crease. They looked like guiding their side towards the winning post.

Liyanage reached his 50 but shortly after he was dismissed by Panter for 63, from 60 deliveries. In the next over Davies was bowled for 34 by Dewan and suddenly the winning line seemed to move further away and there was two new batsmen in.

The target was still more than gettable with 53 required from the final 10 overs with five wickets in hand. Cromer were still attacking but as a result this saw wickets fall with Panter and Dewan doing the damage.

Fourteen balls remained in the match and Brooke needed one final wicket for victory.

Liam Davies and Richard Keeble batted out the remainder of the innings and the game ended in a draw. Panter finished with figures of 5-68 and Dewan took 3-52.

A very up and down game which saw both sides have times when they looked like taking maximum points, but in the end points went 15-14 in the favour of Brooke.

Thanks went to Ben and Vicky Lucking for sponsoring the game.
