CROMER'S final Alliance Premier Division game of the season saw an excellent victory over Lowestoft at the Norton Warnes to finish the season on a high.

The 24 points saw them finish seventh in the Norfolk Alliance Premier Division.

In a year with no professional, the Cromer players asserted themselves brilliantly - and when the performances were needed in recent weeks to get the points to keep them safe from the drop, the players duly obliged.

There is no reason why next season the same group of players, plus any new additions, can't push Cromer further up the table.

Lowestoft won the toss and asked Cromer bat. The opening pair of Tom Davies and Ollie Kimber got Cromer off to a good start with a partnership of 49 before Davies was bowled by Reid for 18.

Kimber soon followed to a similar fate for 31. Richard Charlwood then shared two partnerships in the 20s with David Turner and Kristian Regis. Cromer were 106 for four from 24 overs.

Michael Warnes joined Charlwood and this pair moved the Cromer total along nicely. On a day when the batsmen needed to work hard to score runs this pair put on 108 for the fifth wicket.

In this time Charlwood reached his half-century before falling to Reid for a superb 65.

Warnes batted the remainder of the Cromer innings and finished 50 not out. Cromer posted a very good score of 224 for seven from their 50 overs.

Reid was the pick of the Lowestoft bowlers with 3-35 while South African Avontour took two wickets.

Cromer made a great start with the ball when Warnes bowled Avontour for nought in the first over. Three more wickets followed soon after and the visitors were four for four from 12 overs.

The only form of resistance came from Sims and Brice in a stand worth 65 before Dean Elliott got Sims lbw for 52. Lowestoft's final five wickets fell for just 24 runs.

Elliott cleaned up the tail end and finishing with superb figures of five for nine. Opening bowlers Warnes and Craske got two wickets a piece.

Thanks went to Mick Weddup for sponsoring the final home game of the season.
