Cromer Town are gearing up for a hectic end to the season as they attempt to make it three Anglian Combination Premier Division titles on the trot.

For a variety of reasons the Crabs have played just one league fixture in the past two months and now face the prospect of squeezing in 19 games between now and the end of the season. With only 15 Saturdays before early May, the traditional time for football seasons to draw to a close, the champions will be playing frequent midweek games towards the end of the campaign, with a pile-up on the cards should more games be lost to the weather.

Cromer's problems have been exacerbated by the poor state of their Cabbell Park pitch – and the fact that they are still involved in the Norfolk Senior Cup, which takes precedence over the league. Their quarter-final replay with Diss Town has already been postponed four times, with the latest attempt being thwarted by the weather on Monday.

The Norfolk FA had scheduled the game for this Wednesday at Holt but an early decision to call off the tie was made after Sunday night's heavy snowfall and the prospect of continued sub-zero temperatures.

A new midweek date will be set by Cromer in due course – likely to be next week.

Should the Crabs beat the Tangerines then there will be yet annother match to fit in – a mouthwatering home semi-final with Norwich City Under-21s which has been scheduled for Saturday, February 16.

A mixture of rain and snow has been playing havoc with the fixture list since mid-November while a two-week break over the Christmas and New Year period has also played a part in many clubs having a fixture backlog.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division Sheringham are only marginally better off than their north Norfolk neighbours, with 18 fixtures left to play, while North Walsham have 16 to fit in. The Angels are set to play host to the Shannocks in a basement battle this Saturday – weather permitting of course!

Cromer's scheduled league game on Saturday is at Kirkley and Pakefield Reserves.

In Division One Holt – who should have no problems fitting in their fixtures with just 13 left to play –have a home game with third placed Corton on Saturday while Aylsham, who have 16 to play, are at home to Poringland Wanderers.
