SHERINGHAM played hosts to Saham Toney who denied the Lobsters outright victory.

The visitors won the toss and put Sheringham in to bat. Openers Waduge (8) and Taylor (15) started positively but soon fell within four balls of each other leaving Sheringham 27-2. J Moy and D Wells added another 20 runsbefore Wells fell for six which then brought captain C Sutton to the crease.

Shortly after Moy fell for 17, leaving Sheringham 55-4. J Hall joined, who soon fell for 17, then Hall followed for 21 after drinks.

Neave and J Lloyd put on a solid partnership before Neave departed for 21. Lloyd kept the scoring going with a fine 35 not out, well supported by E Tuck (10), getting Sheringham up to 181-9 in their 46 overs.

A fine start from the opening bowlers saw Saham Toney restricted to 31-3 off 16 overs with Waduge 2-25 and Tuck 1-21. Taylor then bowled economically, finishing on 3-15. J Moy bowled tightly with figures of 1-36, supported by C Moy 1-18. However, Sheringham could not find the final two wickets, seeing Saham finish on 119-8 off their 46 overs.

Sheringham 2nd X1 visited Gayton and secured a much needed victory following a narrow defeat by Fakenham the previous week.

Asked to bat first on a difficult wicket, Sheringham lost opener S Lloyd (0) in the fourth over with the score on 10. Young Callum Taylor was joined by A Jenkins and the score advanced to 23 before Taylor, who had looked completely at ease, fell for just 12.

Twelve-year-old Jack Wells then joined Jenkins, who was playing an array of shots. Wells batted with a maturity beyond his years and with Jenkins advanced the score to 74 before he was unluckily run out for 11. G Norris fell lbw for nought with the score on 95.

S Hudson and Jenkins added 69 for the fifth wicket before Hudson fell lbw. Harley Bailey, another U13 player, then came to the crease and Jenkins was out shortly after for a superb 89. Barstow (1), Youngs (2), Smith (9) and J Norris (7 no) then helped Bailey (16 no) advance the score to 204-9 at the close, Bailey playing a fine innings in the circumstances.

In reply Gayton lost early wickets through Youngs (10-1-38-4), and J Norris (5-2-17-1) and at 27-4 a very early finish looked on the cards.

However, a fifth-wicket stand of 62 gave Gayton a glimmer of hope. But after Wakefield departed for a well-made 29, bowled by Bailey (1-32), wickets fell on a regular basis with Gayton eventually bowled out for 135 in the 38th over. Other wicket takers for Sheringham were Smith (10-4-11-2) and G Norris (1-4).

A good result for Sheringham who now entertain leaders Terrington on Saturday, hoping to avenge a heavy early-season defeat.

Bacton elected to bat against Fakenham and made a steady start adding 25 for the first wicket. This was to be Fakenham's only success for some time as N Cobb and A Larter added 125 for the second wicket. Cobb reached his half-century before perishing in the chase for quick runs, but Bacton made 191-5 thanks to some fine hitting from I Howes, G Lester and R Stringer.

Fakenham's opening stand was 63 before I Seed fell to a splendid caught and bowled by S Searby. Tight bowling kept the required run rate climbing and Fakenham lost wickets regularly.

With the game apparently won, Bacton were given a rude awakening when J Phillipson and then J Pearce took the bowlers on and sent the ball to all corners of the ground. With 22 required off the final over, Bacton skipper G Lester used his experience to keep the two youngsters down to just seven runs and Bacton ran out winners by 15 runs.
