CROMER Town kept alive their slim championship hopes with a 3-1 home win over bottom club Mattishall on Tuesday night.

Goals from Darren Terrington, Liam Davies and Jamie Hunt kept the Crabs' Sterry Cup hopes statistically alive although with favourites Wroxham Reserves needing one more victory, they face tough games with Hempnall (away) on Saturday, Lowestoft Reserves (home) on Tuesday then Brandon (away) and Dersingham (home).

Cromer Town 2, Beccles Town 1

This was the third straight Crabs' victory, moved them into second on goal difference Saturday night and sent a reminder to Wroxham Reserves that they could not afford to rest as they still needed one more win for the Dolphin Autos Anglian Combination championship.

Jamie Furlong, Tom Davies and Danny Brown were unavailable so Neil Bugdale, David Harwood and Jamie Hunton came into the starting line-up, writes Richard Cox.

Cromer scored in the first minute. The ball ran to Harwood who crossed for Hunton at the back post to finish from close range with a diving header.

Harwood fired a free-kick just over from 20 yards and Durrant scuffed wide. On 24 minutes some good movement on the edge of the box again threatened the Beccles defence but Hunton was tackled before he could get his shot away.

Kevin Waterman offered the first threat from the visitors but his shot was easily saved. Harwood's free kick clipped the top of the bar.

Before the break Beccles had a chance but Neil McMarran's first-time shot went over the bar.

At the start of the second half the Crabs again got an early goal. Ryan Honeyman's cross was punched away by Daniel Cable only as far as Durrant, who headed into the net.

The visitors got a goal back on 89 minutes when they were awarded a penalty for hand-ball on the line against Honeyman.

The player received a red card and Waterman scored from the spot.

Cromer Town 4, Sprowston Athletic 2

ON Tuesday last week Chris Wigger had a full-strength squad to choose from.

Shane Whiley had the first shot of the game for the visitors, but Stuart Parsons kept out his 30-yard free-kick. Moments later Cromer had their first chance and took the lead.

The ball was played into Darren Terrington at the near post, who laid it off for Ryan Honeyman to score with his first-time strike.

Simon Durrant was just off target then Sprowston's Whiley saw his cross bounce back off the woodwork.

On 23 minutes, Cromer extended their lead. Durrant was brought down in the box and Tom Davies scored from the spot, off the underside of the bar.

In time added on, Athletic pulled a goal back. A shot from the edge of the box was fumbled by Parsons and Damian Didwell tapped home.

Straight from the re-start Liam Davies got the ball at right back and played it over the defence to his brother Tom and his shot found the net via two big deflections.

Didwell was denied by Parsons and Riki George fired over. Terrington flicked onto Horton who made a great run forward but was denied by Hill.

Durrant's shot was deflected over. Tom Davies' effort was brilliantly blocked, the ball ran out to Harwood but Hill came out well to get the ball from Harwood's feet.

In the 85th minute Cromer got a fourth. Durrant flicked through to Terrington, who one-on-one finished brilliantly in the left corner.

The visitors grabbed a late second through sub Ben Welham.
