Anglian Combination Premier Division rivals Cromer and Wroxham Reserves battled to a 2-2 draw, probably a fair result but one which could prove crucial come the end of the season.

There was a better result for the Crabs on Saturday with a 1-0 home win over Brandon.

Cromer 2, Wroxham Res 2

In what was a scrappy opening period a lot of the play was broken down by the defences, writes Richard Cox.

The opening goal came when the Crabs were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box. Durrant stepped up, lifted the ball over the wall and curled it into the bottom left corner.

Wroxham won a penalty when Walsh was brought down in the box by Liam Davies. Ross Durrant stepped up and saw his spot-kick excellently saved by Richard Kellett. Wroxham continued to push for an equaliser.

Another ball over the top forced Kellett to punch clear. The ball fell to Durrant whose effort was cleared away.

The second half saw Wroxham have more of the ball in the attacking third and they equalised on 65 minutes when Phil Smith lumped the ball forward and the headed clearance fell to Joshua Walsh who from 25 yards looped the ball into the net.

Shortly after they took the lead. A cross from the left somehow made it to Ross Durrant whose headed ball slowly rolled into the bottom corner of the goal.

Against the run of play Cromer made it 2-2 immediately. The ball was played forward and was chased down by Morais who was first to the ball and smartly lifted it over the onrushing Smith.

Cromer 1, Brandon 0

IN Saturday's game Cromer had a lot of possession and were looking to cause problems to the visitors' defence. The Crabs finally made their dominance pay, netting when Eves made a driving run into the box and squared to Darren Terrington who controlled well before firing home.

On 79 minutes Cromer were reduced to 10 men when captain Ryan Honeyman received a straight red card for a two-footed tackle on Shane Leech. Although a man down Cromer remained a threat and held on for victory.

Cromer Reserves got an excellent 1-0 win away at Division Three leaders Hempnall Reserves. Lewis Smith got the winning goal.

On Wednesday night Cromer Reserves take on North Walsham Reserves in the CS Morley Cup final at Clipbush Park, Fakenham, kick-off 7.30pm.
