ADULT and junior members of North Walsham Hockey Club celebrated a very successful season.

A well-attended club day was held on the artificial pitch at Cromer Sports Centre on Saturday.

The U11s and U13s played inter-club games in the morning before the annual meeting, with the adults playing in the afternoon. The whole club came together in the evening for the presentation of trophies at Northrepps Village Hall. The day gave members an opportunity to celebrate the seasons' achievements and their magnificent nomination as England Hockey Club of the Year.

North Walsham, along with the Ashmoor, Cirencester, City of York, East Grinstead and Wakefield clubs, is in the running for England Hockey Club of the Year. The winners will be announced at the England Hockey Big Night Out in May, its first ever awards dinner to celebrate the work of its champion volunteers and the success of the sport.

North Walsham HC is growing with a strong junior section. This season the club was awarded the England Hockey Club Mark, demonstrating it is a good club with clear management, structured coaching, a commitment to equity and to safeguarding junior members.

There was success for the two new teams entered in the league this season, the men's fourth team in Division Six North East and the Ladies Development team in the Norfolk Ladies Development League.

The creation of these teams has provided the club with a clear path to adult hockey, the focus being on developing junior members and providing an opportunity for U15 girls and O13 boys to participate in competitive hockey.

The men's first and second teams gained promotion, the second team as champions of Division Five North East.

The ladies' first team has also had a good season in the East League following promotion last season.

One of the biggest achievements in the club's history is the nomination as England Hockey Club of the year.

'For our small, grassroots club to be recognised at national level by the sports national governing body is a tremendous honour. I am proud to be chairperson of such a wonderful club, and for us to be put forward as one of the six best hockey clubs in England is a great accolade.

'It gives recognition to the hard work and commitment of members who not only play but contribute to the club too through taking an active part in the running of the club, coaching and umpiring,' said Jo Todd, chairperson.

New adult and junior members are always welcome. Anyone interested in finding out more about the club can visit the website www.northwalshamhockey.co.uk
