It has been a busy few weeks for Reepham Runners.

Nick Bowden has been particularly busy. He entered his first fell run in Sedberg Three Peaks a 3.6 mile race with a 1,515 foot climb, with good weather.

Nick finished in 39 minutes and finished in a fantastic 44th position overall. This was an excellent result considering the lack of similar hills and terrain to train on.

Ben McQuillan and Steve Plackett competed in the Eaym race which is an extremely hilly, but on-road half marathon in Derbyshire (Peak District).

It has beautiful scenery and the organization of the event was brilliant. They had a great day and finished amazing close in times of 1:40. Not quite as quick as 2006.

There was a good turnout for the second Brighton Marathon in April. It was a beautiful day and an amazingly hot day which came as a bit of a shock after the harsh winter training. Paul Robinson got a pb with 4:08, as did Philip Cooper with 5:15 and Richard Bulman crept under the 4:30 with a 4:29 which a great time. It was good to see so many representatives from other local clubs and the support they gave. It was a beautiful course with great organisation.

Stretching out of the bounds of running Johnny Woodhouse had a great result in the first Waveney Sprint Tri-athlon. He's now working hard on bettering this repeats of the event later in the season.

To assist with this progress he took part in the Dereham 10 miler where he got a pb with 1-21:56. The course is very fast with a long straight at the start before meandering through country lanes finishing with a hard two miles on the old A47.

The weather was perfect. Also taking part was Gregg Quinn 1-13:43, Chris Edwards 1-13:59 (pb), Jude Durrant 1-19:24, Richard Cadman 1-24:24 and Julie Dilrew 1-29:38.

A great turnout, there were even enough for a veterans' team.

Over April and May Great Yarmouth Road Runners hosted their five mile series. Jude Durrant competed in all three events and gradually improved over the events.

On the last event she was joined by Nick Bowden 33:39 and Richard Moss-Jones 33:59, Jude followed them in with 37:02.

North Norfolk Beach Runners hosted the annual Chase the Train event. An off-road event following the Bure Valley Railway from Aylsham to Wroxham, it was a very hot day as it was in London too.

Jude Durrant came in as third lady in a respectable 1-09:52. The joy in the race is the relaxing train journey back to Aylsham.

The following week it was off to Whittlingham Lane for the Trowse 10k hosted by City of Norwich Athletics. Again it was a very hot and humid morning.

Again there was a great turn out Nick Bowden 44:28, Gregg Quinn 44:54, Phil Cooper 46:36, and Polly Wake 47:54 piping Jude Durrant 48:07 to the post. Jude won her age category.

The club tries to 'run away from home' from time to time as a club and in May managed a trip to Matlock, Derbyshire for the White Peaks Run.

Two races the half marathon and the full. You are bussed from the finish to the start of the event along the High Peaks Trail, a disused railway line with panoramic views across the Peak District.

The weather was fantastic with a strong cool breeze. The half marathon consisted of a nine-mile climb followed by some steep descents to the finish, to the awaiting club support and ice-creams which were more than appreciated.

Chris Edwards and Nick Bowden stuck together and finished in a credible 1-39 a pb for Chris' first attempt at this distance.

They were followed in by Phil Cooper 1-41 (another pb), Jude Durrant was next also with a pb 1-44 and Richard Bulman in 1-54.

All were great results on such a tough off-road course. Following 13 miles behind doing the marathon route was Paul Robinson who had a fantastic run and completed the second half of the race quicker and took a massive 12 minutes from his Brighton pb with a finishing time of 3-56.

The club would also like to thank Jean x 2, Geoff and Jenny for their support during the weekend and for Stuart biking to the water stations for his support which wasn't as easy as planned.

Jeremy Haslett had a tough run in Belfast, completing the race in just over four hours. Jeremy is now focussing on his next event in Iceland which is ran late in the evening to experience the sun not setting over a summer's evening. Sounds hilly too.

Finally Nick and Jude competed in the first of the re-arranged Norwich Road Runners 5k series races, run which this year is at South Walsham. A tough hilly course, which meandered through the country lanes, Nick finished in an excellent 20:40 followed by Jude in 22:52. It was nice to run in the relative cool to the heat of late.
