Eleven Broadland Chess Club members pitted their wits against players from all over the county, at the Norfolk Chess Championships, held at the Tithe Barn, Horstead.
Reigning champion Roy Hughes, of Broadland, fought hard to defend his 2016 title and finished joint first at the end of the five-game tournament but, after scoring was adjudicated, ended up losing out to Steve Orton, from Norfolk and Norwich Chess Club.
Club members also took part in a quick play tournament in September, with Paul Badger named overall winner and David Elsey taking the Aylsham Festival cup for the player achieving the best results for their grade.
Broadland, which is the largest chess club in Norfolk, welcomes new members and visitors. The club meets at the King's Head, Wroxham Road, Coltishall at 7pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. For more information, visit the club's Facebook page or www.sites.google.com/site/broadlandchessclub/
