ON a sunny afternoon children from four local primary schools gathered on the artificial pitch at Cromer High School to take part in the first U11 North Norfolk hockey tournament.
It was organised by North Walsham Hockey Club as part of its outreach project, with Paston College students coaching and supporting the children for their Community Sports Leadership Award. Some of the children already attend NWHC training sessions, but for many it was their first experience of competitive hockey.
NWHC junior section co-ordinator Mary Cheesman said: “It's fantastic to see so many children playing hockey and getting better with each game.
“They all said they would like to do it again and we hope to repeat it next season.
“This is a real community effort with Paston College, Cromer High School, North Walsham Junior School, Cromer Junior School, Mundesley School and Antingham and Southrepps School all working together, and we are helping to provide the next step for the children to develop their hockey.”
