SHERINGHAM Legends' Mid-Norfolk Sunday League campaign got off to an amazing start when 16-year-old Ben Plumb plundered 176 runs in 37 overs to put the issue beyond doubt against a below-strength Hindringham.

It immediately makes him a contender for the Hansells Roll of Honour batting award.

Opening the batting, Plumb, whose previous career best was 40, started uncertainly and was dropped by Hindringham skipper Jeremy Greenwood diving to his right when on three.

However, he grew in confidence the longer he stayed at the crease and gained his half-century with a six over square leg.

He then raced to his hundred, again hitting a six over the leg-side boundary.

Pulling and driving powerfully, Plumb quickly moved on to 150 with yet another six over long on.

He was finally out for 176 going for his double century. Sheringham achieved a total of 286-6, with R Keeble contributing 34.

Hindringham replied gamely, scoring at a rate of eight an over until Grant Youngs (2-13), the pacy young left-armer, struck by taking two wickets in two balls - the second caught by Keeble at first slip off the shoulder of Joe Schofield.

This put paid to any faint hope Hindringham may have had of reaching the massive total and Chris Bishop, the promising Sheringham swing bowler cleared up the innings with a haul of 5-27.

Sheringham (21 points) beat Hindringham (4.)
