The second open angling match to raise funds for the project boosted the total sum available to almost £500.

Nigel Day, who organised the events, said there was now enough cash for the work to go ahead and David Cooper's name will be engraved prominently on the seat which will be installed at the dam end of the popular fishery.

“I thank all who helped in this worthwhile effort and the date of the commemoration will be announced in due course,” he said.

Aylsham Ian Baz won the second match with 39lb, Henry Parkinson of Sheringham was runner-up with 32lb then Terry Palmer of Hevingham with 30lb.

A disabled angler has caught the heaviest common carp populating the Cobble Lake fishery at Hevingham.

Wheelchair-bound Mike Dodds, from Lenwade, reeled in the monster scaling 35lb 2oz while fishing a pineapple-flavoured boillie on a size eight hook to 15lb breaking strain line.

Cobble Acre's head bailiff Bob Anderson, who weighed the giant specimen, said: “Landing this fish on such frail tackle is the top performance this year so far at Cobble Acre,” he said.

Other quality carp over 20lb fell to Andrew Weir of Bacton and Dan Page of Aylsham.

At the Lyng Kingfisher Club Lake Buxton's Stu Davison landed mirror carp of 34lb 4oz, 27lb 8oz, 21lb and a common

of 22lb.
