North Walsham travelled to Mundford for their final away game of the season yet again with a depleted side after three late call-offs, and were unlucky to be beaten 3-1.

Charlie Everson stayed in the squad and while there were first appearances for the evergreen duo of Steve Gibbs and Dave Crabbe.

Walsham started the brighter of the two sides, with early opportunities falling to Matty Downing and Liam Clarke. However, an error by Jay Robertson saw Jake Munday in the Walsham goal up-end the Mundford striker and a penalty awarded which was coolly slotted home.

Walsham then suffered a second blow when skipper Ant Davies limped off, to be replaced by Gibbs. Despite the changed side, Walsham worked tirelessly and were dominating the game, with efforts from Downing, Clarke and Dale Wilton. Walsham's efforts were rewarded on the stroke of half-time, when Wilton slotted in their equaliser after a good run from Downing.

The second half saw Walsham continue to have the upper hand, with Clarke heading against the Mundford bar with their keeper beaten. The game now opened up, with Walsham seeing a Wilton free-kick saved before Mundford were awarded a free-kick right on the edge of the box which they curled superbly around the wall and into the corner of the goal.

Mundford then score a third after another free-kick was awarded, only half-cleared and then poked home in the melee which followed.

With the score at 3-1, Walsham now had to throw caution to the wind, and Crabbe was introduced and then Everson too. From a miss-timed challenge, Mundford were awarded a second penalty, but this time Munday saved superbly to deny them. Walsham pushed forward and from a bursting run down the wing from Gibbs, his cross was met by Downing but put just wide.

The Walsham manager was happy with the effort of the squad, and their performance, which on another day would have seen them comfortably come away with all three points.

A special vote of thanks goes to Gibbs, Everson and Crabbe for making the squad and playing their part, and to skipper Davies and Jay Robertson for playing despite carrying injuries.

On Saturday the Angels are at home to Loddon United (2.30pm) and all support would be welcome.
