Despite a wet and blustery morning, eight North Norfolk Beach Runners travelled to Great Yarmouth for the newly-organised Great Yarmouth 10k race.

First home by some distance was the revitalised Paul Muffett. He has struggled with a series of injuries in the past 18 months, but produced a spectacular run to finish 14th overall in a tremendous time of 37:45, beating some extremely good runners in the process and taking first prize in the Over-50 age group.

John Christopher was next across the line for the Cromer club, 25th in a sound time of 39:11, some way off his best, but still highly commendable in the difficult conditions.

Ryan Callaby had another good run to finish 59th in a useful 42:07.

Inside the top 150 in a very big field were Michael O'Connor and Trevor Horrex. Mike Marshall and Jonathan Folkard were both comfortably inside the hour mark with Katrine Middleton the only lady Beach Runner braving the conditions, finishing a little further back.

Meanwhile seven of the North Norfolk Beach Runners senior runners decided to forego the delights of Yarmouth, going instead to Wisbech for the Fenland 10 Mile race where Eastern Veterans AC medals were on offer.

Maurice Copeland was rewarded for turning out on such a morning with a gold medal in his age group whilst Brenda Kinch recorded a personal best time of 80:30 and took home a silver medal to add to her overflowing trophy cabinet.

First Beach Runner in was the evergreen Trevor Emery in an excellent time of 71:00 with Ian Wade, Noel Spruce and Geoff Hayward also running well on the exposed Fenland course.

Club chair, Andi Osborne bravely, or perhaps foolishly, took on the race just a week after her considerable efforts in finishing the Abingdon marathon and got round in a time which she will no doubt better in the coming months.
