Beach Runners simply flying

NORTH Norfolk Beach Runners have had a fantastic 2010 season with prizes won almost every week by the Cromer club's veteran runners.

But on Sunday it was the turn of some of the younger members as the men's team picked up first prize at the Coltishall Jaguars Autumn 10k.

Jamie Seamark got the team off to a flying start, coming in fifth overall in an excellent time of 37:41 and taking second place in the 15 to 39 age group and with a ninth place finish for Michael Foulkes it was left to Dave Spooner crossing the line in 45:45 to bring home the winners' prize.

John Christopher continued his steady season, finishing 30th in 41:50 and Terry Quigley got round well just one place behind Dave Spooner.

Mathew Parfitt finished 77th in a field of nearly 200 and Ian Jarvis ran his umpteenth race of the year, finishing with a steady time of 49:30.

Further back Shelley Burton comfortably broke the hour barrier for 141st place and Emma Culley, Andrew Toogood, Maria Culley and Karen Emery all enjoyed the breezy but dry morning and an excellent course devised by the Coltishall Jaguars Club.

Much further afield Brenda Kinch made light work of the windy conditions and undulating terrain at the Jersey Marathon.

Earlier in the year Brenda distinguished herself by taking her age group at the London Marathon but this time the organisers set her a much greater challenge with no age group beyond the over 55s.

Nevertheless, Brenda managed to finish 29th in the ladies' race with second place in the over 55 category in a superb time of 3-54:34.
