Beach Runners make their mark in Wales

North Norfolk Beach Runners pulled off a remarkable victory at last weekend’s Pembrokeshire Coastal Marathon with members of the Cromer Club filling the top two places of one of Britain’s most gruelling challanges.
The event consists of three marathons run on consecutive days, each taking place over the tortuous cliffs of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.
Beach Runners Colin Stark and Andy Kett made light work of the 78 mile trail to finish just 19 seconds apart. Colin’s cumulative time for the three races was a remarkable 14 hours and 49 minutes.
Nearer to home, and over the much flatter terrain of the Horsford Woods, several Beach Runners were on the start line of Norwich Road Runners first cross country of the season.
First home was Jim Hayes, fresh from an excellent age group win at the Fenland 10. Jim got round the muddy course in a superb time of 54:37 to take first place in the Over 60 category, nearly a minute ahead of fellow club member Terry Quigley.
The pair were split by Dave Spooner, whose time of 55:13 was good enough for fifth place in the 40/44 age group with cross country enthusiast Ian Wade completing the three lap course in 59:11. Christina Walker had an excellent run to finish second in the 40/44 age group, crossing the line in a time of 44:51 over the slightly shorter ladies course.
