THANKS to the generosity of the huge crowds lining the sea wall at Cromer on Boxing Day, Jim Hayes and Andrea Osborne, from the North Norfolk Beach Runners, were able to hand over a cheque for £1,250 to Martin Preston and Robina Churchyard of the Sheringham Children's Trust.

More than 30 Beach Runners joined at least 100 swimmers for the annual dip off the beach next to Cromer Pier. To add to their discomfort, tradition dictates that the swimmers must enter the sea twice. Meanwhile, other members of the 100-strong running club were asking the spectators to empty their pockets in support of one of our most deserving local charities.

The Sheringham Children's Trust was set up in 1994 to provide financial assistance to children from the Sheringham area who have lost one or both parents. The Trust then helps the children up to the age of 18 with such things as childcare, holidays, sports equipment and musical instruments.

It is one of our smallest local charities and is able to pass on every single penny donated to the children they are helping.
