LAST weekend 28 clubs from around London and in the counties of Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex entered a total of 2,342 individual registered swims by athletes aged between nine and 27.

This represented entries from the most competitive and talented swimmers in the East of England and the competition was extremely fierce.

Seven swimmers from Aylsham Vikings attended this open meet, some of whom were competing over both days. Some stayed overnight in hotels.

The swimmers behaved immaculately in difficult conditions and the coaching team are very proud of the dedication, enthusiasm and sheer effort shown by them all.

They were, indeed, ambassadors for the club.

Stephanie Cooke was the club's top performer, winning the 400m freestyle in 5min 6.22sec and also picking up a bronze in 200m freestyle.

Jodie Hands also had a very good weekend, finishing in the top four of each of her five races, picking up bronze medals in the 50m breaststroke and 50m backstroke.

All achieved very well and some good personal best times were obtained.

This would have given those present an invaluable experience of competition and also given them a unique insight into the challenges that lie ahead if the club is to reach the standard required to compete at a high level.

A 'very well done' to all those who attended.

Anyone aged seven-plus who is interested in swimming regularly and working on their technique, and potentially towards competitive swimming, should ring Barry Donovan on 07939 373529 for details.
