A new set of practice nets has been opened at Aylsham St Giles cricket club as it launches into a new season boosted by the 17,000 project.

The new facilites, as well as a motorised roller and water remover, result from a sustained period of fundraising, Sport England provided 10,000 of the funds as part of its drive to get local communities playing more sport.

And the club aims to use the nets for coaching of juniors, as well as practice for adult members.

Broadland District Council provided 3,712 through its community capital grant scheme, the Lords Taverners a further 2,800, and Norfolk County Council 1,000.

At an opening ceremony, performed by English cricket Board development manager for Norfolk Kieron Tuck, club secretary Jeremy Cocks thanked the grant funders and the ECB and Aylsham Recreation Ground committee for their support.

Regular Wednesday evening sessions are now under way, and will continue through the summer, starting at 6pm for under 17s, and 7pm for adults.

Anyone interested should contact Jeremy Cocks on 01603 250519 or Philip Clark 01263 733197, or simply turn up on the night.
