Lee Harrod (2) and Matt Curtis netted Dilham's goals with Gentle and Thurston replying for Gimingham.

Dilham's team boss Shaun Sidell said the upturn was the result of youngsters passing the 16 year qualifying age rule and added: “This silly rule has had a serious affect on many small village clubs but now we've cleared the first hurdle I believe we have a chance of beating relegation in our eight remaining league games.”

In Wayford Nurseries Division Two Runton enhanced their chances with a 3-1 win over Happisburgh Reserves while in Knights Trophies Division Three Holt A are nine points clear following a 4-2 result over Mundesley Reserves. Cromer YOB are up to second after pounding Briston Reserves 8-0.

In the Optic Benevolent Cup last season's losing finalists East Ruston bundled Corpusty out of the tournament by the odd goal of three, their scorers Gainsford and Woodhouse with Ramm replying. In the semi-final Ruston are at home to Mundesley.

Buxton also made the last four with a 4-3 victory over Aldborough the winners' marksmen Thompson, Abbs, Callow and Henderson while Hall (2) and Dockerty netted for Aldborough. Buxton's semi-final opponents are Bodham.

In Rivetts Motors Division Two the cup holders Coltishall beat Bodham 4-3 (Joy 2, Edwards, Powley). While in the REW Subsidiary Cup last season's runners-up Horning put out Hickling by the odd goal of nine to make the quarter-finals against North Walsham A who eliminated Felmingham 3-2.
