Sprowston Athletic 1, North Walsham Town 4

North Walsham Town faced lower-division Sprowston Athletic in the Norfolk Senior Cup third round.

Town started enterprisingly and should have been ahead when Abbs released Patterson, who was up-ended and referee Nield pointed to the spot.

Ant Davies saw his effort strike the foot of a post before being cleared.

Despite the setback, the Angels remained in the ascendancy and both Abbs and Muir came close.

At the other end, Sprowston were relying on sporadic counter-attacks and one such attack saw Murphy tip a dipping volley over the bar.

Sprowston again came very close to scoring when a quick break resulted in a chance being fired over with the Town back line all at sea.

Sprowston took the lead when Murphy saw Brighten's free-kick elude his grasp and he could only palm the effort into the net.

Karakanna poked his shot wide. Walsham equalised on 58 minutes. Abbs' corner was turned home by Darren Patterson for his first of the season.

The Angels stamped their authority on the game, and moved ahead on 69 minutes, when James Marsh's incisive through-ball released Michael Reynolds and he displayed great composure to round the keeper and tap into an empty net.

This was Marsh's last contribution as Town made their first change with Rob Marsh replacing his older brother. Murphy was a bystander in the Town goal with Abbs causing problems down the left flank with his direct running.

On 75 minutes, Walsham introduced Cini and Broom in place of Davison and Davies and Cini's impact was immediate. After Abbs was hauled over, the Town substitute delivered a wicked in-swinging free-kick which was met by Patterson for his second of the game.

The icing on the cake was added in the 89th minute when Nield awarded Town a second penalty after Patterson was fouled.

Daniel Tindall stepped up confidently and despatched into the bottom corner.

Walsham will be looking for this form to continue in the weeks to come. First up is a trip to Sheringham in the Mummery Cup.

Meanwhile, Walsham Reserves suffered a disappointing 4-2 defeat at home to Freethorpe and now sit on drop zone precipice. Their attention turns to the cup this weekend as well, with a trip to Bungay.
