Wroxham boss Stewart Larter will be hoping the expression 'it's a new year and a new start' becomes true today during their home fixture against Brightlingsea Regent, writes Adrian Gowling.

A run of 13 games without a victory in Ryman League North going back to October 10 has seen the Yachtsmen enter the year languishing perilously close to the relegation positions.

A 1-0 defeat away to Soham Town Rangers on Boxing Day was the latest setback for the Trafford Park side that are now just three points clear of the bottom three.

Larter will be hoping that his side begin to pick up wins in 2016 as traditionally teams towards the bottom of the league look for ways to improve their positions by making signings, so as to remain at Step Four of the non-league ladder.

It isn't all despair for Wroxham though. A battling 1-1 draw in their previous home game against Phoenix Sports, who went on to beat league leaders Cray Wanderers on Boxing Day, shows there is spirit in the side.

Larter will be hoping the New Year hangovers are long gone though against Regent and that his strikeforce can find the net.

This will be the first meeting between the two sides this season despite it being Wroxham's 25th game. Brightlingsea lie 10th in the league with 20 more points gained than the Yachtsmen from two fewer games. Regent have won seven of their 12 games on the road including matches at AFC Sudbury and Bury Town.

Luke Read is their leading goalscorer with 11 league goals to his name but Josh Mayhew is unlikely to travel after it was announced he was being made available for transfer.

One piece of good news for Wroxham going into the game is there are no new injury worries for the Yachtsmen.
