SHERINGHAM reclaimed the Anglian Combination Premier Division top spot Tuesday night with a 1-0 derby win away to the defending champions Wroxham Reserves.

Despite a 2-1 win over fourth-placed Hempnall, the Shannocks had conceded the Sterry Cup pole position to Acle on goal difference on Saturday after United won 4-0 at bottom club Watton. Sheringham are now three points clear of Acle.

Kristian Gleave and Matt Banham secured victory for the Saturday Shannocks who have now used up their game in hand over Acle and have three over third-place Brandon, who slipped to five points off the leaders after a 1-1 draw with Loddon.

North Walsham and Blofield are also very much in the hunt after emphatic wins over Hindringham (5-0) and Cromer (4-1) respectively.

Dale Wilson scored twice for Walsham while Danny Brown did likewise for Blofield. The Angels have played one game fewer than Sheringham and Blofield two.

North Walsham were due to play at Holt last night.

On Tuesday, Cromer drew 1-1 at home to Beccles.

On Saturday, Sheringham entertain Hindringham 2.30pm, Cromer Town entertain Wroxham Reserves and Holt visit Hempnall.

The championship race mathematically appears to have narrowed down to six teams, with teams having between 13 and only seven games left.
