Saturday sees the start of a new season at Cromer Cricket Club.

The first team's opening game in the Alliance Premier Division is at home to newly-promoted Brooke while the second team start their Alliance Division Five campaign away to Brooke 2nd XI.

Three new signings have been made during the winter which will add to the strength of both sides.

Tom Davies is first team captain for a fifth successive season, and after last year's fourth-place finish he is hoping to at least match that this coming campaign.

Due to changes in regulations and the current financial climate, the club is without the services of a professional this season. This gives the opportunity to the local boys to really get stuck in and step up to produce the goods.

Skipper Davies is very excited by the prospect of leading a team which is full of young local talent, and despite no professional he sees no reason why they can't compete for honours.

Last season's promotion-winning second team makes a return to the Alliance in Division Five. Alan Lithins has taken over the reins from Andy Van Greuning, who is now in charge of the Sunday team. Due to the structuring of the leagues, only top spot will secure another promotion for the 2nd XI, but skipper Lithins is more than confident his side can achieve this.

During the winter some huge steps have been made off the field. There is a new look and larger committee with several new faces to share the workload around.

One of the new roles is the girls and women co-ordinator which has been filled by Emma Warnes. She will be looking to promote the development of girls' and women's cricket within the club.

This, and Cromer's ever-improving junior coaching, will be major factors in the club achieving the Clubmark accreditation, which would be a massive step forward for Cromer CC.

Cromer have formed part of the North Norfolk Women's Cricket Group, along with Bradfield and Sheringham, with the aim of getting more females of all ages involved in the sport.

It is hoped that in time a north Norfolk representative side could be selected. Cromer CC wants to have a women's side and plans are already being made for any female who wishes to play.

Coaching begins at the Norton Warnes ground on Monday, 6pm start. These sessions will take place weekly and are an opportunity for boys and girls to come along and get some excellent coaching from the club's qualified coaches.

Hopefully they can find some of the future senior stars of Cromer CC who get the chance to play games in the club's under-13 and under-15 sides.
