North Walsham 0, Wroxham Reserves 0

North Walsham played host to Wroxham Reserves and gained a point following a gritty display.

The Town line-up was much changed again with James Marsh and Abbs joining the long list of unavailable players. The squad saw returns for Sumner and Davison, whilst youngster Randall was on the bench after some enterprising efforts recently.

The game began at a frenetic pace and within three minutes striker Fitzgerald and keeper Kellett had found their way into referee Nunn's notebook and the big keeper had clawed away a King penalty.

After weathering the early Yachtsmen attacks, the Angels settled into their stride and came close to opening the scoring but Giacomelli's last-ditch tackle prevented Cini, who then fired straight at Pauling moments later.

The Angels were forced into an early change as Foulser suffered a recurrence of a knee injury and was replaced by Payne.

The Town substitute nearly made an instant impact but his low drive was palmed wide by Pauling.

At the other end, Kellett was being kept busy as he made a number of fine saves. As the game approached the break, the Town goal led a charmed life. Firstly, Kellett slipped in the mud and the ball sailed over the helpless keeper, but thankfully Davison was on the line to hook the ball away. Moments later, a 25-yard shot from Holt slammed against the crossbar and away to safety.

The second half saw Town work tirelessly to preserve their clean sheet, forced to defend deeper and deeper as Wroxham dominated possession. This saw Kellett making a number of fine saves and blocks.

Town's attacking threat was sporadic and the best chance fell to Fitzgerald, but he was thwarted by Banham as he looked set to fire home.

The latter stages saw Town put bodies on the line as they gained what will hopefully be a valuable point and also act as a kick-start to the Angels' campaign.

Walsham will be hoping to take this spirit into two encounters with St Andrews and it is hoped that new faces will be involved for these games with the management working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure Town stave off the threat of relegation.

n Walsham Reserves' poor run of form continued as they lost 3-1 (L Payne) at Easton. This sees them stuck in the relegation zone of Division Three. Walsham A also suffered a defeat in the quarter-finals of the Benevolent Cup as they went down by the odd goal in three to East Ruston.

On a brighter note, the Sunday side made it four wins on the trot with a 2-0 success at Vale Longo (McGilway, P Payne).
