SHERINGHAM player manager Ben Price is looking optimistically to the future after what he regards as a good week for the club both on and off the pitch.

The Shannocks ended a run of four consecutive defeats in the Premier Division of the Anglian Combination on Saturday when they returned from Beccles Town with a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

News of that point brought a smile to the face of Price, who spent the afternoon with the Reserves as they were losing 3-2 to North Walsham's second string in the quarter-finals of the CS Morley Cup.

And he was also pleased to report some behind-the-scenes changes which, he feels, will improve the club's chances of success in the future.

'It's something I think is better to keep in house but what I can say is that we have taken steps to change the way the club is run which, I feel, will benefit both the first team and the reserves,' he explained

The Shannocks' second string are currently going great guns in Division Four of the Anglian Combination, where they are top on goal difference, having lost just one league game all season.

Under Price, the first team may have slipped down the Premier Division table of late – but they remain comfortably placed in mid-table and will be looking to build on the weekend draw when they play host to second from bottom Wymondham Town on Saturday afternoon (2.30pm).

'Looking at the rest of the season I don't think finishing in the top four is beyond us, but as they always say, it's about taking one match at a time and all we are concentrating at the moment is Wymondham,' said Price.

Saturday's match was no classic, but Sheringham battled hard to ensure they had a point to take home with them.

Beccles started well and opened the scoring when Damon Bensley notched his 12th goal of the season but the visitors were back on level terms before the break.

After a mazy dribble the ball fell to Kristian Gleave and his shot on the turn from the edge of the area found the back of the net.

Beccles had chances to take all three points after the break, with Bensley twice going close, but Sheringham stood firm to move up to seventh place in the table.
