North Norfolk Harriers' under-13 boys relay team turned on the style to take gold at the South of England Cross-Country championships in London.

The outstanding achievement underlined the boys' equally impressive fourth place at the English Road Relay Championships earlier in the month.

Innes O'Malley, Brad Keay and Henry Jonas have formed a strong partnership and their determination was very much in evidence at the Wormwood Scrubs event.

Leading from the front, the trio never looked back. with Henry bringing home gold on the final leg to deliver the Harriers' best ever result.

More recently, the boys ran hard to finish 12th from 97 teams at the Saucony English Cross-Country Relays in Mansfield. Although slightly disappointed with their placing, the boys can look at the high quality of opposition and take a great deal of credit from their performance – they finished just 46-seconds behind the winning team.

Excellent Harriers representation from its under-13 girls and under-15 boys teams ensured a thoroughly enjoyable race day in Mansfield – one of the athletics calendar's most prestigious national events.

'What a victory for our under-13 boys!' said Harriers chair Paul O'Malley. 'And it was achieved in such thrilling style, too. The win puts The Harriers on the national map and the boys can now stand on the start line at future races knowing they're going to be in the mix at the finishing tape.'

He continued: 'Mansfield was an even bigger event, attracting the very best athletes, and it was a proud moment for us to see the blue-and-yellow vests competing against the country's biggest and best clubs.

'I have to congratulate all our other athletes and especially our incomplete teams in the under-13 boys and under-15 girls categories – well done to Nathan, Archie and Eliska; the experience for them is invaluable as they continue their development.

'A solid performance from our under-13 girls team at both recent races indicate a promising future for Abbi McCallum, Sophie McKee and Hattie Reynolds.'
