Trimingham Pilgrims visited Poringland Wanderers and played their part in a remarkable match that, apart from a handful of bookings, was a fine example of grass roots football.

The Norwich Sunday League encounter produced eight goals, with the Pilgrims fighting back from 4-0 down at half-time - and 4-2 down with five minutes left - to pick up a 4-4 draw.

Pilgrims' starting line-up was keeper Leigh Brown, defence Lewie Amos, Daniel Tyrell, Adam Johnson and Ollie Bell, midfield quartet George Crane, Dan Gabriel, Jack Crane and Liam Amos and strikers Dan Duffield and Luke Everson.

The substitutes were Jordie Wiseman, Ryan Beeson, Mark Jennings and Jack Nield.

Poringland scored on 20 minutes and then netted twice more in quick succession, Pilgrims twice hit the bar but the home side led 4-0 at the break.

The visitors however remained buoyant and their never-say-die spirit kicked in in the second half.

Daniel Tyrell hit a long free-kick upfield and touches from Duffield, Gabriel and Beeson worked the ball to Jack Crane who drilled low into the net.

For 20 minutes this looked like being only a consolation but another free-kick from Johnson was converted by Everson.

Five minutes from time George Crane picked up a half clearance, beat two defenders and then shot, the ball flew into the air off a defender and Beeson headed home.

In the dying seconds Wiseman lofted another free-kick from the right into a packed penalty area and Tyrell rose at the far post to score with a firm header and earn his side a deserved point. In the Walcott Lighthouse Inn North East Norfolk League leaders Gimingham and Runton were both left idle due to scheduled opponents North Walsham A and Holt Colts both being unable to muster squads.

The focus therefore fell on second-placed Cromer Youth Old Boys who entertained Hickling and thanks to goals from Euan Neave, Sam Slade and Liam Fearn they ran out 3-0 winners.

Haisboro Athletic won 4-2 away at East Ruston while goals from Martin Fairchild and Tom Gay gave Erpingham an odd goal of three home win over Holt Reserves.

Not for the first time this season Erpingham Reserves suffered a heavy defeat, this time 13-0 at Southrepps.
