INTIMIDATING youths caused a town council workman to call the police when they prevented him mowing North Walsham Memorial Park this week.
The group, thought to be in their late teens, surrounded the workman as he was cutting the grass, using a tractor, on Monday at lunchtime. One stood in front of the vehicle, forcing the driver to stop.
The workman believes they were the same group who had been unhappy the previous week when he told them they could not go on the park tennis courts while he was spraying there.
Police arrived after the workman rang their 0845 number. But North Walsham town councillors agreed with town clerk Margaret Foster, at their meeting this week, that if something similar happened again,
employees would be quite justified in dialling 999 and summoning help more quickly.
