As well as having a chance to try out instruments including steel drums, bongos and ukuleles, the school’s 180 pupils were invited to take a turn on the DJ decks with musicians Nik Void and Tim Burgess, sing sea shanties with Blakeney-based songsters the Old Wild Rovers, and sing gospel songs with Holt Methodist Church minister Rev Cliff Shanganya.

Saxophonist Alison Corfiled ran rhythm sessions, with St Andrew’s Church choirmaster Mark Jones and 17-year-old Gresham’s School student Aaron Hollinger also running workshops.

Launched in France in 1982 as the Fete de la Musique, Make Music day is now held on the same day every year in parks, schools, streets and community venues in more than 800 towns and cities in 120 countries.

Teacher Bonnie Yexley, who organised the event with the help of teaching assistant Caroline Riseborough, said: “We are very grateful to all the musicians who volunteered to give their time and we hope it has inspired children to try out a new instrument and make music in a way they perhaps haven’t done before.”
