The experience of childhood in different times is the subject of a book which has just been republished to raise much-needed funds for a village hall.

Yesterday's Children, by John Kett, who was headmaster of Cawston primary school for 26 years and died in 2010 aged 93, was first published in 1980.

But due to the enduring success of the book, which covers a time period from 25,000 years ago to the 1980s, the village's historical society wanted to print some more.

Society chairman Des Cook said: 'It's about what children would have gone through at different times. It's quite an educational book.'

Mr Cook said proceeds would go towards modernising the village hall.

He said they had printed 100 copies of the book, and they would probably run off more thanks to strong demand.

Yesterday's Children costs £3.50 from All Things Nice in Cawston high Street, or from Paul Handley on 01603 871370, Andrew Welton on 01603 879464 or Mr Cook on 01603 872111.
