Work on a retirement homes complex on a former abattoir site next to Tesco in Stalham, which has lain dormant for a decade, will start later this year.
Plans to build new Retirement Living apartments and bungalows were approved by North Norfolk District Council's planning committee last week.
McCarthy and Stone submitted plans last September to redevelopment the site with 30 apartments and 12 bungalows.
The scheme will also feature on-site car parking, landscaped gardens and high-quality communal facilities including a homeowners' lounge.
Matt Wills, regional managing director of McCarthy and Stone, said: 'We've worked hard to create a high-quality scheme and it was clear from our consultation with the local community that there is a real desire to see this disused site brought back into use.'
