Tesco bosses say work would start within the next few days on their Aylsham store, with an anticipated opening date in the summer.

The Aylsham Tesco plans have not attracted as much criticism or publicity as nearby towns such as Sheringham and Stalham, although there have been significant levels of objection over the years.

Tesco's corporate affairs manager Michael Kissman said: “We are starting work on site to build our new store in Aylsham next week.

“We are planning on opening the approximately 15,500 sq ft shop this summer.”

The store was given outline planning permission in 2002, with full permission eventually following in November 2006. In those four intervening years Tesco made a large number of design changes in order to appease concerns about the plans not being in keeping with the historic market town.
