Renowned golf commentator Peter Alliss makes a welcome return to the Pavilion Theatre, Cromer Pier for an evening of stories, comment and anecdotes on the sport close to his heart.

One of the most famous voices on television, Peter was described by Golf Digest as the 'greatest golf commentator ever.'

His father, Percy Alliss, was among the finest players of his generation, so it was perhaps inevitable that Peter would also make a career in golf.

He quickly established himself among the top young players of the time - winning 21 professional tournaments between 1954 and 1969, including three British PGA championships.

In September 1958, he won the national championships of Italy, Spain, and Portugal in three consecutive weeks. His first appearance in the Ryder Cup was in 1953, and apart from 1955 he represented Great Britain and Ireland in the event until 1969.

Peter made his broadcasting debut in 1961, as part of the BBC team covering the Open Championship at Birkdale, and in 1978 became the BBC's chief golf commentator following the death of his co-host and great friend Henry Longhurst.

Peter once claimed he was a golf commentator because he was 'an old player, a lover of the game and a good weaver of stories.'

He remains in constant demand as a speaker noted for his depth of knowledge of the game of golf, his wit and 'off-the-cuff' humour.

He is appearing at the Cromer Pier Pavilion on Saturday March 29 at 7.30pm, with tickets costing £17.50.

But there is a chance to win two tickets to see the show by answering the question on the coupon in this week's newspaper, and returning it by noon on Friday March 21 to Peter Alliss Competition, North Norfolk News, 31 Church Street, Cromer, NR27 9ES.
