He's more used to pony tails on an actual pony but four-year-old Kaiden Griffin looked quite at home for a hairdressing job with a difference.

The horse-loving youngster from Holt, who suffers from a life-limiting heart condition, was given the job of cutting off vet nurse Lauren Lawton's 18-inch plaits to raise money for charity.

Miss Lawton works for Grove Vets in Fakenham with Kaiden's aunt Bonika Belshaw and heard how his family was raising money to help others in their situation.

The 29-year-old, who lives in Swaffham, offered to let Kaiden cut her hair for sponsorhip and set a target of £500 in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital, East Anglia's Children's Hospices, and Kaiden's Big Fight which was set up to help his parents Kyra Welch and Kieron Griffin make memories with their son.

The hair will be donated to the Little Princess Trust which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair from cancer treatment.

'He was a typical boy about it and threw the plaits at his auntie,' she said.

'We are almost at our target already, but I will keep the page open a bit longer.

'It was a great experience for Kaiden and something a four-year-old would not normally get to do so if we can raise a bit of money as well to help other families it is doubly worth it.

'I'm getting quite used to the new look. I've had long hair most of my life but I am rather enjoying the breeze round my neck.'

Ms Welch, who is from North Creake, said Kaiden was back at school this week, probably telling all his friends about his hairdressing experience.

The youngster suffers from CHD (cogenital heart defect) and doctors told his parents to 'make some memories' after discovering the situation with his abnormal heart, lungs and veins was too complex for him to undergo an operation.

'He does get tired and his lips go quite blue but he really enjoyed himself,' she said.

'I had my hair cut off three years ago for the Little Princess Trust, it is a great charity and so important for children to have real hair wigs to feel normal when they are having cancer treatment.'

The family is now planning a Christmas to remember for the youngster.
