Calling all train enthusiasts - now is your chance to get involved with the popular Bure Valley Railway.

The heritage attraction, which is Norfolk's longest narrow gauge steam railway and operates nine miles between Aylsham and Wroxham, will be holding a volunteers open weekend this Saturday and Sunday.

It has been organised for anyone who is interested in helping out on the railway and the event will include meeting existing staff and volunteers and going behind the scenes. There will also be an opportunity to drive a steam engine.

The railway is owned by a small group of enthusiasts and is operated entirely on a not for profit basis, with any profits being reinvested.

There is a small team of paid staff supported by active volunteers and the steam engine now carries over 120,000 passengers each year.

Andrew Tunwell, general manager, said: 'The volunteers' contribution is essential to the running of the railway and its long-term future. Volunteering for the Bure Valley Railway is a great way to get involved with the local community, make new friends and learn new skills. Whatever your age, whether you are male or female, if you have a couple of hours to spare or can make a more regular commitment, we would welcome your help.'
