The first joint managing director of two Norfolk councils has been confirmed.

At an extraordinary meeting of Broadland and South Norfolk Councils on Thursday night, Trevor Holden was voted in as the first joint managing director.

Mr Holden, who will have a salary of roughly £160,000 and will start in the new year, previously served as chief executive of Breckland Council from 2007 to 2010, and was most recently chief executive at Luton Borough Council.

The confirmation marks further collaboration between the two councils - while the two will remain autonomous, a joint officer team will be created.

Mr Holden, who attended Wymondham High School and worked for a stint at Lotus, said: “I am delighted to be joining South Norfolk and Broadland District Councils at this very exciting time, I am looking forward to working with my new colleagues and to engage with and listen to local residents and businesses to help them achieve their ambitions.”

John Fuller, leader of South Norfolk Council, and Shaun Vincent, leader of Broadland District Council, said: “All of the candidates went through a rigorous two day recruitment process and the standard was very high.

“However, Trevor emerged as the candidate with precisely the right combination of skills and expertise that we need to drive our ambitious growth agenda.

“With Trevor in a position to lead both councils we will now take advantage of the larger scale provided by our collaboration, to improve services for our 260,000 local residents and for our 10,000 businesses.”
