Vintage scenes of North Walsham will cover the boards at a two-day exhibition in the town later this month. The North Walsham Remembered event will feature hundreds of photos of the town, plus slide shows.

It has been organised by the North Walsham and District Community Archive Group which works to collect and preserve information about the area. Members hope the exhibition will alert the public to their work and encourage them to contribute, and to delve into a website packed with local treasures.

They are urging visitors to bring along their own local pictures and other memorabilia which could be photographed or scanned to add to the group's section of the NORCAN Community Archive website, as well as offer names and information about the collection on show. So far nearly 600 photos have been added to the site.

Town mayor Anne Rose will open the exhibition on Friday October 22 before the first of four different slide shows, with the first, at 10.30am, given by Brian Hedge. Mike Ling will present another at 3pm, and the following day, they will reverse the order.

The event, at the Methodist Church Dayspring Centre, is open from 9am to 4.30pm each day. Admission is 1 and proceeds will be divided between the archive group and the Methodist church.

The website can be accessed via www.remembernorfolk.org then selecting the North Walsham and District icon.

The group usually meets on the first Tuesday of each month at North Walsham Library. For more information ring 01692 402482 or email mike.dilys@virgin.net
